Re: "how do you know Dresden isn't ramping some flash there now? Also, in view of worldwide chip demand, it seems Dresden will be making "something" and lots of it so I doubt the FAB will go to waste like you are hoping."

On the contrary I hope AMD continues to prosper because I am now a shareholder and I am an investor first and a partisan second. I hope you're right and they are making some flash.

Sustained profits Jim... Sustained profits...

As least we partially agree. AMD should be building in some fail safe mechanisms such as more flash capacity while the coffers are full...
I don't know what else....but they should be looking forward...

Jim, actually I think AMD is but in incremental steps as opposed to large leaps. I am surprised at the number of different areas into which they have their fingers...stuff like easyPC. Whether its successful or not....I like the idea and the attitude behind it.

I also don't get these attempts that companies make to radically change aspects of their business..ie Intel getting into webhosting or if CSCO were to get into enterprise software. I think you pick a goal and direction that is not a radical departure from the core business and then make incremental steps towards that goal. That's what I see CSCO doing and doing very successfully.

JMHO.
