Um, well that's $111K on a base of $3.6 million so it's a 3% gain, not all that impressive, eh? (Before someone jumps on me for the inconsistency with previous posts, both figures exclude one large position held in a different account and $750K cash.) Re. alternatives I'm having trouble finding good things to buy at current levels. In hopes it may help, I've listed most of my activity below (and now you can see why I'm guzzling mochas at a much higher-than-usual rate!). BTW it goes both ways, suggestions for what to do with the cash I've raised cheerfully accepted! Since starting my diversification program the following have had eye-popping gains: CSCO from 70s to 130s SEBL from 70s to 120s (I'm not adding to them here; I'm braced for the bubble to burst but still think they're worth at least what I paid for 'em.) The following have done extremely well: JDSU from 160s to 230s AMAT from 120s to 180s NOK from 160s to 200s INTC from 70s to 100s RFMD from 60s to 90s (thanks, JFD!) (I probably will add only on dips. Missed adding to JDSU at 199, the others haven't given me any new entries.) The following are doing pretty well: EMC from 102 average BGEN from 96 average (I've generally been gobbling up EMC whenever I need put money somewhere; I think it's attractive even at the current price level. BGEN's run up a lot lately so I've turned to snacking on AMGN, listed below.) These are newer positions still on probation: AMGN MEDI GDT MDT (You're probably sensing the recent biomed theme here.) And here are some I've got my eye on but have run away from me: NT (missed the perfect chance to enter in the 90s) TXN (still waiting for a pullback that may never come) SNE (it just keeps going, and going, ...) And just so you remember I don't have a crystal ball, I lost money on the following: WCOM from 52 to 48 MRK from 66 to 63 QCOM from 138 to 128 MRK from 66 to 63 (still holding it despite the loss) (VG rule: better a small loss than a big one, new positions that lose money are generally cut after 10% loss no matter what. It's unusual for me to do this much buying/selling in a short period, and it's painful right now 'cause I'm down a total of $26K on short-term trades and I'll only be able to deduct $3K. I made an exception for MRK because the position is 3 months old now and I got to 63 via 77; I'm still hopeful of recovery.)
