Don't apologize for raising the Russian question, Ish. I was just explaining why I just felt like retching when you brought up Putin's name! <g>

As for past history, it does affect the future. Once a KGB operative, always a KGB operative. Yeltsin, for all his many faults and his authoritarian disposition, at least kept his hands off the press, and refused to collaborate with the Communists. Putin and his boys, however, have already been putting the screws on freedom of speech, and have struck up an alliance with the CP. Of course, none of this may affect Americans, but I personally care what happens to Russians, not to speak of the other nationalities living there.

So, what's with me? Recuperating from a MAJOR dental operation (I'm getting implants), planning to get to Moscow before the elections (teeth & cold weather prevented me from going earlier), hosting visiting Chechens, letting my bill-paying and housekeeping slide...Busy, in short. Hope to see my oldest son & daughter-in-law & grandchildren this weekend, for son's birthday. My present to him will be a check for him to continue his kung-fu lessons, which he dropped because he felt he could not afford them any more.

How's the wife? Up and out of bed yet? BTW, does she have any osteoporosis?? That's an awful lot of fractures from one fall...
