Union probably covered their butts pretty well with their contract ... I've seen the contract because I was looking at shorting US BBs through them. After I read Union's contract I decided against opening an account with them because I could see what they were setting me up for ... massive losses. Americans think they're so damn smart because they go out and get an account with a Canadian broker so they can short the high flying US BBs. After all why should the evil Canadian short sellers have all the fun? What they don't know is that it's not the regular Canadians who are shorting their stocks. Usually it's shady Canadian brokers shorting US BBs naked for their own accounts and with the latest crackdown on naked shorting by the US SEC these Americans who hold brokerage accounts in Canada must have lost their butts in similar cases to what this man suffered.
