Rs 5 cr software grant for IITs, IIMs

BANGALORE: Database technology leader Informix International Inc on Wednesday announced the launch of a software grant programme for India to allow educational institutions access to the world's most advanced database technology at a no cost basis.

As part of the programme, the company will make software grants to the tune of Rs. 5 crore to Indian Institutes of Technology and Management besides premier universities of the country to facilitate education by placing the industry's latest technology in the hands of future innovators.

ormix International managing director N Muralidharan told reporters here that the grant programme would remove the economic barriers that prevent educational institutions from fully utilising the latest information technology in the classroom and in research institutions.

Indian Institute of Information Technology director S Sadagopan who was also present said technology development was necessary to become globally competitive and the educational institutions need to raise resources from the industry. The software industry had taken the right step towards industry-cademic interaction, he added. The software grant programme would enable students to get exposure to the new generation business intelligence tools and methodologies being used by the industry globally. --UNI
