Gore is much more polished than he was in the past. Also, after the last 2 elections, I will always be leary of the liberal candidate due to the bias in the media. Having said that, both Bush (dad) and Dole would have won if Perot hadn't taken votes away. So you may be right if there isn't a third party candidate to steal votes away from the Rep. candidate.

Do not underestimate Gore. He is smart and articulate, and almost as cunning and diabolical as his mentor Bill Clinton. One of Clinton's great strengths is his ability to surprise and outmaneuver those who underestimate him.
