The quality of Epson printers is great when they work. Some people have had maintenance issues with Epson printers.

I believe the jets in HP printers are in the cartridges and the Epson jets are integral to the printer. So when a jet clogs the HP has the advantage as the cartridge is replaceable.

1440 dpi terminology is a little misleading IMO. I am not sure of the specifics..but I believe they consider that each of three basic colors make up a final color...so they count extra dots in their tally.

I believe the actual dpi is closer to 300 dpi.

The quality of the HP near photo quality printers is also quite good.

Ink and paper will end up costing a bunch so be sure and compare the expendables..they will exceed the cost of the printer in short order.
