Nah, I didn't know about that seaport. The Romans were first class engineers. A lot of their inventions were amazingly 'modern': waterworks, plumbing, heating, road construction. And some of their works will still be standing long after what we put up is dust. When you contrast them to what was around them, and what came after, you see that they weren't just "a civilization", they were civilization itself.

The loss of that engineering knowledge and organizational ability is what made subsequent times 'the dark ages'.
