Does anyone really think this is anything but a political ploy?

I'm not too worried about the China deal having a lasting negative impact on Q as there are a number of good things in Qualcomm's immediate future:

If the Kyocera sale was for $1.2B, as was indicated unofficially in a Japanese article, it would be $400M more than the analysts estimated.

As stated in the analysts' meeting, Q expects to land Nokia as a customer shortly.

Japan, not China, is this year's growth market, and it seems to be moving faster than could have been expected. Based on everything I've read, there is no chance that WCDMA manufacturers will escape paying royalties to Q.

China desperately needs western money, and the Unicom ipo is a major opportunity for them, but not without cdma. The delay will be very short.

I look for Q to set new highs by mid year.

jmho,
uf
