Hi Investor2 - I am seeing the same thing in my portfolio. However, I hold specific stocks that I have researched and feel quite comfortable with their business going forward and the management. With that said, I have sold enough stock to return my original seed money. This is one approach that Cabot uses. He states; "..let your winners run...".

I generally try to hold 18 months or longer as long as the company story remains positive. I then sell 1/3 to invest in new companies starting the 18 month process over again. Another 1/3 is sold or hedged with 3-6 months call options if I feel the stock gets ahead of itself.

I have been investing using this approach for most of the 90's. Prior to that period (in the late 70's and 80's) I focused on diversified mutual funds.

Using this approach, you must be willing to ride the up's and downs and know your companies and industries they participate in.

EKS
