He is probably basing his thinking on the SBC deal and the belief product is already shipping. That gives him a short term idea...but doesn't really provide much for a long term outlook.

In looking around today I notice that Stephens & Company based their outlook for AWRE on 4.5 million chips selling in 2000. ADI said in their CC they expect to sell 4 million Aware based chips alone in 2000. So what will LU, ST Micro, Infineon, Intel, NEC and others sell? Are we looking at a big time upside surprise this year?
