While I certainly can't claim any great familiarity with CA and SSW, I have owned both in the past when I was still doing some short term trading. IMHO, the merged companies don't pose a significant threat to CTXS.

Does the acquisition of Sterling Software by Computer Associates form a direct threat to CTXS.

Not knowing anything about either company, I've got no idea why they would pose a direct threat to Citrix. The only potentially direct competition I'm aware of is SCO, something called Blue Moon or something close to that, a third minor firm whose name doesn't come immediately to mind, and Microsoft.
