DULLES, Va. (Reuters) - Top Internet services provider America Online Inc. (AOL.N) said on Thursday that it named Dennis Patrick president of its newly formed AOL Wireless unit.

Patrick has been serving as senior advisor to Bob Pittman, AOL's president and chief operating officer, on AOL's strategy for delivering its service over wireless devices.

Patrick, in his newly created position, will be responsible for AOL's wireless strategy and operations, including new initiatives and partnerships. He will report to Pittman.

"As wireless emerges as one of our major 'AOL Anywhere' initiatives, we are delighted that Dennis is expanding his role with the company to head this key new division," Pittman in a statement.

AOL's flagship service has over 21 million members and its CompuServe services has more than 2.5 million members.
