I'm calling this span of years the Triple-Oughts. It has an undeniable internal music.

When I went to college my scholarship was the gift of the class of 1901. I worked at their class reunion (to sort of pay them back for their generosity) and got to know them pretty well. They had two U.S. Senators, Smith of New Jersey and Duff of Pennsylvania who hung around the bar arguing till the wee small hours (and so did I).
Any way, the point one zero's nickname is "naught" or "aught" (OE, the same as my nom de post). They could hardly refer to their class as "naughty one!" So they called themselves in the class of "aughty one." The previous class, their hated sophomores, were the class of "aughty aught."
Make it so.
