JB, the only thing that supercedes research, is research. Ya gotta be in the right sector (e.g. via research), before you invest in anything. Knowing what to pick then becomes less of a fundamentals issue... however, I like to fall back on them for insurance. I can't see day traders making much money with Co's that aren't in favourable sectors - not day after day. Similarly, value investors are going to miss substantial opportunities by sticking to the fundamentals.

I don't know how you'd categorize my investment style. I'm definitely not a typical value investor, but I'm not a day trader either. Kind of a hybrid. I've tended to trade less, as of recently, and focus on small/micro cap Co's that aren't run by crooks/incompetents, with an eye toward undervalued sectors. There's definitely money to be made doing the quick flips on the garbage companies, but I'd rather see the clowns who run those Cos get real jobs. I guess I had one too many bad experiences handling garbage.

P.S. Watch the O & G sector. If OPEC's March 27th meeting goes well, we're going to have a helluva rally.
