Carrier Access, Somera Communications, and Western Multiplex Join Forces To Deliver Wireless DS3 Turnkey Solution (PR Newswire, Feb 24, 2000 14:22 hrs)
Instant License-Free Mobile Site Point-to-Point DS3 Solution Increases
Service Termination Capacity, Reduces Infrastructure Costs
BOULDER, Colo., Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Carrier Access Corporation (NASDAQ:CACS), a leading provider of broadband digital access equipment solutions, Somera Communications (NASDAQ:SMRA), a leading telecommunications infrastructure equipment and services provider, and Western Multiplex Corporation, a leading provider of broadband wireless solutions, announced today that Somera will be showcasing a revolutionary DS3 wireless solution package at the CTIA Wireless trade show in New Orleans next week.
The solution, available from Somera, combines the Carrier Access Wide Bank(R) 28 DS3 Access Multiplexer with Western Multiplex's license-free LYNX.SC 6 DS3 microwave radio to enable instant wireless transmission of high- bandwidth applications between fixed locations. The combination of the Wide Bank 28 Multiplexer and the LYNX.SC 6 DS3 radio gives cellular, SMR, wireline, CLEC, private network and ISP customers a fast, cost-effective way to implement high-capacity DS3 connectivity.
"We anticipate tremendous demand for this leading-edge solution," said Jeff Miller, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Somera. "We've combined the LYNX DS3 radio with the Wide Bank 28, along with antennas and transmission equipment, to offer a turnkey solution for high-capacity access requirements."
The Wide Bank 28 DS3 Access Multiplexer supports 28 T1 channels per DS3 switch-port interface. By dropping multiple T1 lines using the Wide Bank 28/Western Multiplex wireless DS3 radio solution, customers can increase their service termination capacity and avoid the installation limitations and delays that can plague licensed radio solutions. The solution takes advantage of the license-free spectrum, drastically reducing deployment time.
"License-free wireless provides an easy-to-use technology that offers a considerable cost savings over leased lines or fiber optic links," said Amir Zoufonoun, president and general manager of Western Multiplex. "The LYNX DS3 radio/Wide Bank 28 combination provides an effective solution for replacing leased lines and scaling up capacity of existing multi-T1 paths."
"The ability to increase capacity in a short time frame is very important to operators in today's growing and highly competitive market," added Barry Kantner, vice president of marketing at Carrier Access. "The Western Multiplex-Carrier Access solution directly addresses this issue in the wireless market."
Somera has been a value added partner with Carrier Access since January 1999, stocking their Wide Bank, Navigator, and Access Bank product lines. Western Multiplex has named Somera Premier Partner of the year for three consecutive years. Since 1997, Somera has provided Western Multiplex's LYNX T1/E1 spread spectrum unlicensed radios for wireless solutions.
