IC and ICD will trade as one beginning in April 2000. The only difference that I can find between the two is a dividend distribution -- which should only be about 30-40 cents. ICD therefore, based on current pricing, is the better buy.

I also check and there is a registration statement filed for ICICI Bank -- which ICICI owns about 74% of. I think when ICICI Bank goes public in the U.S., there will be a lot more understanding of ICICI and ICICI Bank.

It looks like a mini-Softbank -- check out the website for the structure -- the structure looks like the Softbank structure in today's WSJ, Page C-1.

P.S. Indian stocks are hot -- check out the performance of SIFY. A problem for foreignors, however, is that it is difficult to make direct investments in India stocks -- and I do not believe that a foreignor is permitted to buy ICICI on the Bombay exchange without the India gov't approval.

By the way,Robert, great background information.
ICICI -- a PROFITABLE internet-focused company -- quite unusual.
