Thanks for sharing your dd and tech insights with us, KonaGuy. I looked through your profile, and am flattered you mention me as motivating you to get back into the market, but does that also mean your wife and kids will blame me if you lose their money? The thing you forgot to mention is that you are my next door neighbor, which makes me an easy target for their wrath! Please be conservative and wise, because I know how tough Charlotte can be <lol>.

btw, how about giving us your latest assessment of ctxs? I know you have a lot of expertise in that area. Share.

Was unaware that ATC systems utilized both Bacnet and Lonworks in the same system. How do they communicate to each other. Since they must be on seperate buses.

Also can you expand on what you refrenced as ID nodes.
I've been trying to find out how elon charges a honeywell for it's technology. Is it per system, per component or is it a blanket type fee. No one seems to be sure.

Also heard that Carrier and Trane are coming out with lon compatible units which is surprising to me since they have their own proprietary control systems.

Lonworks vs Bacnet is a good example of two gorilla candidates fighting it out. It would seem to me that at this point with Honeywell, Finland, and Cisco that ELON is in the lead in developing it's value chain and establishing itself as the standard. Remember it's not which one is better, it's the one everyone rallies around.

I do however remain very skeptical about the whole smart house area. It seems every major consumer company is coming out with it's own network. Electrolux, Bosch, Microsoft to name a few. How will different appliances communicate with each other. It will not be practical to have to have all appliances from the same manufacturer. I would feel better if a few major CE companies adopted Lonworks as their standard.

Boy, do I agree with your conclusion as to the size of their potential market....it's far overblown IMO.

With so many very REAL markets exploding all around us, in areas we can and mostly do understand, the automated house is not worth my time.

New residential construction in this country is less than a million a year, and has been for years! Divvy that up among 4, or 5, or 8 vendors, and none of them has anything near what we're looking for. Even in one of them got it all, it would still be small change.
