Loki <<".little would surprise me with CPQ.
The announcement is pure PR.">> Agreed,, pure PR to eliminate fears of something in the shadows. Nothing would surprise me about cpq but this looks to be on the up&up.. time will tell ...

<<"The new accounting firm must familiarize itself with
the company, this can be inefficient.">> This required a chuckle! How can any company become efficient with cpq when cpq has not been able to do it? Maybe some one new will get cpq the technology to get the numbers out in a timely manner-- since they have not been doing too well maybe IBM can help-- that would move my nice IBM stock even farther,, <GGGGGGGg>

SEC asked cpq to change auditors;

I don't think there is any great mystery here. The SEC is investigating Price Waterhouse for alleged violations of SEC "independence" rules. SEC concluded that Price Waterhouse violated these rules as they relate to one or more clients including cpq. Therefore, SEC strongly suggested that cpq hire new "independent" auditors. CPQ complied and hired new firm. Apparently, one or more persons at Price Waterhouse were considered too close to cpq (ie. former employees of cpq etc.). Without facts we can only guess as to which individuals and circumstances caused the violation. In the final analysis it really doesn't matter. There was a real or perceived potential conflict and it was addressed.

Loki -
I remember reading something a ways back about the SEC investigation of PW, but could not find it - maybe PW developed a conflict of interest because of the DEC acquisition - in any event it looks like the SEC drove the change, and it was related to PW, not CPQ.
