Here is one of the product announcements: LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES INC late on Wednesday introduced a new optical networking product that allows telephone and Internet companies to build local data networks which are four times faster than today's networks. Designed by Bell Labs, Lucent's new WaveStar DataExpress 10G allows local and regional data networks operating at speeds of 10 gigabits per second (Gb/s). That's the equivalent of transmitting a 2 million-page document every second. METROMEDIA FIBER NETWORK INC will be first to test the new system.
