Telecom, Net Cos set to rush for railway network

MUMBAI, FEB 25: A host of basic phone service providers, cable TV and internet companies are set to bid for the Indian Railways network thrown open by Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee today.

While basic telephone licensees would be more than happy to use the Railway network due to problems faced during laying optic cables around the country.................

The Union government clarified that it has decided to utilise its 'right of way' covering 62,800 kilometers for building a nationwide broad band telecom and multimedia network by laying optic fibre cable.

"The Indian Railway's vast network can be utilised for creating the missing internet backbone in the country",
said an official of Incable of the Hindujas
. The entire net traffic within the country is presently routed through the computers based abroad which is reducing the speed and efficiency, he added......
