1) have the capacity to accept the assignment
2) have the desire to own the underlying stock

then all else that you posted should keep you conservative and prevent you from being just a speculator...

Perfect summary, and all you left out was:

sell puts on oversold condition. That is, when stock has dropped close to its lower range of current support. Thus sell JDSU puts when it was in the low 200s.
