Fatboy it has been Carrier and Trane who are the number 1 & 2 equipment manufacturers who have developed their own proprietary systems at great expense who have been resisting the most. Similar to GSM and TDMA carriers resisting CDMA to save their investments.

However I see the end users as calling the shots eventually.
To date they have been held hostage by not only Carrier and Trane but all the building control manufacturers. Since everyone has a proprietary system that is incompatible with each other, once a manufacturer has their front end system installed in one building then that owner is trapped into using that manufacturer in all future buildings and upgrades. Elon gives owners the freedom to mix and match manufacturers thus ensuring they get the best performing system for the money.

Owners will realise this sooner or later and will demand their design teams to specify an open type system. The equipment manufacturers and temperature control companies will have no choice but to comply or be cut out of specifications. This is why Honeywell has signed on and why Carrier intends to introduce Lon compliant units even though they have their own proprietary control systems.
