Unclewest let me clear up your thoughts on the wiring.

The existing wires going to our light switches, TVs, and etc. are line voltage(110volt). Lonworks communicate in low voltage(20volt dc or 4-20ma). Thus almost all existing wiring is incompatible for Lonworks or any other communications network.

Additionally in commercial buildings this wiring must be done with a special shielded type wire that prevents interference from high voltage wiring, structural steel and other wiring from
corrupting the data on the communication bus.

That is why I mentioned that wireless would be very useful in existing structures.

I think there are more lurkers on this thread then we think,
Elon up 22!!! The day after you post it!

I don't want to beat this horse any more, uw. ELON makes sense to me, but IMO, the new construction market is not going to be easy...any cost passed to the consumer in new construction is very hard for the builder to recoup...it's always been that way in that business. In remodeling, any add that the next buyer can't immediately see is hard for the present owner to recover. Both of these will be hard sells.

If ELON is to be evaluated positively, and well it might be, then it will be on it's offerings to other kinds of industries than construction. It's just an opinion, but it's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it! <ggg> Give the automobile driver a more convenient way to gas up...yeah, I can see that. Give the power company a cheaper way to read meters...yeah, I can see that. Show me a way to run my toaster, waffle iron, table saw, and battery operated clock better...no, I can't see that!
