Aus, Sony Memory Stick although seem like a competition to Sandisk but it has done nothing but good to promote "flash" usage. Sony is a very powerful marketing machine. We should welcome its effort in promoting this new and exciting technology. Sony does not have competency in Semiconductor technology yet they have invested a great deal of resources in developing flash based products. Just a few milestones: 1. Sony converted successful Floppy storage Digital cameras into flash based Digital cameras. 2. Sony converted MD(MiniDisk) portable players into Flash based Memory Stick Audio Players. (MD is its own invention and still very popular in Japan). 3. Sony introduced MS(Flash) into Digital Video Camcorders. (JVC, Panasonic and others introduced products based on CF or MMC as a result of this) 4. Sony introduced security into Flash Memory (Memory Stick and Magic Gate). 5. Sony is introducing MS (removable Flash) into Automotive industry. 6. Sony is developing other markets such as Telecommunication for removable Flash media. 7. ... They have increased the need for flash with each of these initiatives. This was done either through their own design or exciting the interests of their competition( JVC, Panasonic etc.)in introducing competing products with different formats( i.e. CF, MMC or SD) I think we should welcome every announcement from Sony with enthusiasm since it only grows the need for CF, MMC, SD as well as MS.
