Well, some Protestant groups are somewhat vile about it, and would not, for example, be able to acknowledge John Paul II in the manner that you did......Still, mostly it is not news, no.....

It's one thing not to believe that the Pope is Christ's representative on Earth. It's quite another to make arguments that the Pope is the anti-Christ. And it's still another, as a Presidential candidate, to consort with those who hold these views. At least if you care about capturing (the considerable) Catholic vote. I think GWB has lost New York and Massachusetts, at least, because of his insensitivity.
