Seems the press (at least Bloomberg) is slanting the deal as a win for ORCL. "It also means Ford and Oracle's AutoXchange will overtake GM's TradeXchange as the dominant electronic tool for speeding up the buying and selling of those parts. ``This is a big win for us, and a stick in the eye for any other competing exchange in the auto industry,' Oracle President Ray Lane said. ``We (this exchange) are the supplier of parts for the auto industry.'" GM, DaimlerChrysler to Join Ford Online Parts-Buying Venture By Greg Gardner GM, DaimlerChrysler to Join Ford Online Parts-Buying Venture Detroit, Feb. 25 (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Corp. and DaimlerChrysler AG will join Ford Motor Co.'s online auto-parts purchasing venture, AutoXchange, leveraging the buying power of the three largest U.S. automakers to win cost reductions from thousands of suppliers. Ford formed AutoXchange with database software maker Oracle Corp. in November to reduce the No. 2 automaker's costs. GM had formed a similar business with Commerce One Inc. The three automakers will have equal ownership in the new venture, which will operate as a separate and independent business. ``As we continued to build our separate exchange sites, we quickly realized traditional, individual stand-alone models weren't the winning strategy for us, our industry, our suppliers and, ultimately, our customers,' GM President Rick Wagoner said. The combined effort reflects the industry's desire to cut the more than $200 billion they spend annually on parts and materials.
