I have only read the ELON tutorial as well as some of the other site ELON site info. From what I understand, the LonWorks arhitecture is based upon the idea that the lower network layers are separated out quite nicely. This being the case, the physical medium becomes less an issue. Further, as technology evolves, the new lower layer can be introduced.

Seems like a fairly sound architecture. Now, with acceptance by the right players...
