Ed,
Here is the recipe I use for clams. When the water in LI sound is a little warmer I wade out in front of the house, feel around with my feet for quohogs, and cherrystones. Select the first dozen I find (legal size of course) Next wade to the rocks nearby for a couple of dozen mussels. Then carefully poke around in the river that meets the sound in front of the house for some oysters. Head back to the house, fire up the grill, put the oysters, clams, and mussels on the grill. When they open they are done. Add a spoon of melted garlic butter to each, open some Guinness as the line forms at the grill. I tried this with clams from the market but it just wasn't the same.
