Besides, in the final analysis, society has a right to prefer certain things over others. We do not acknowledge polygamous unions, even when they are fully consensual. We do not let close relations marry. In each case, society disapproves, and its opinion prevails. Mostly, we leave people in unconventional relationships alone, at least nowadays, but we do not extend privileges to these relationships. There has to be a more compelling reason to alter existing arrangements than that it is fair to let adults enter into civil contracts.......

All things being equal, isn't society made better when an injustice ends? For the rest, if you don't believe that marriage as a legal institution makes a better society, we need not pursue it.
