Superconducting wireless stocks surge

SUNNYVALE, Calif. (CBS.MW) -- Shares of superconducting wireless
stocks soared on Friday, extending their recent meteoric rises.

Conductus (CDTS:
news, msgs) powered
up 17 15/16, or 37
percent, to 66 7/8 and
Superconductor
Technologies (SCON:
news, msgs) shot up 20
5/8, or 44 percent to 67
1/2.

On Wednesday, Conductus rocketed 23 11/16 higher after its ClearSite
system showed a 50-fold increase in cell site coverage at a CDMA cell
site. On Thursday, Superconductor boasted that its Super Filter II
product showed a millionfold increase in interference rejection compared
to common conventional filters.

Since the beginning of the year, Conductus has soared 469 percent and
Superconductor has run up 1,285 percent. The companies make
superconducting products for the wireless communications industry.

Superconductor Technologies (Nasdaq: SCON) picked
up 20 5/8 to 67 1/2, continuing a recent rally among
stocks of superconductor products companies.
Superconductor Technologies on Thursday announced
a fourth quarter loss of 42 cents per share, unveiled a
new noise filter for wireless communications, and called
for development of a streamlined platform for wireless
3G systems.
