Paul,

And when Intel ships the Willamette - not long after AMD ships the ThumperTurd - Intel will regain the lead.

That's entirely possible. But Thunderbird may be alone for 1 to 2 quarters. It's possible that Villy will be virtually MIA in crucial Q4. By the time Willy is in full production, I may take the money and go elsewhere. I will make that evaluation later.

But as of today, AMD is still a buy in my book.

Joe

PS: regarding Willy:
It may not serve Intel to do a paper launch of Willy and be without ability to deliver volume in Q4. It may just freeze the market, as people postpone their purchases until Willy is out. Most of the buyers of Willy will be people who are replacing or upgrading PCs, so they have a lot more flexibility than the first time buyers.

All of this would be the case if Willy is marketed as a replacement for Coppermine. Intel could start yet another "segment", price Willy at $1,500 and call it a workstation chip, available in limited quantities as PPro. That could prevent the "freezing" of the market.
