I love this we'll " jump you to the next big thing" stuff.

Last I looked my cable was, well, cable and my phone, well copper.

Someone wants to tear up my lawn to lay fiber great. My guess is the dish/satcomm/cellular way lands the outlying dollars eventually. The fiber captures alot if it gets to the home in 2 yrs. (in 2yrs!!) right now the rollouts of the RBOCs will render a war against fiber! Consumption of the masses must occur quickly for the RBOCs or the fiber story and cable game leaves 'em. Cable will eventually run into the same problems plaguing modem based solution.
Namely, the pipe gets filled and the bottleneck begins at the home and not at the network connection point where infrastructure improvements can solve it.
DSL can import BW improvements and still maintain an immediate migration path in the future networking protocol, namely ATM. Not all cable is going this route.
