I don't actually see an economic reason why we should have a DJIA/NYSE bear market -- we don't have inflation, the economy is very strong, which should translate into strong profits. I guess the obvious reason for a decline is historic comparisons between bonds and stocks. The other reason is if everyone has run out of cash from pumping it all into NASDAQ stocks that haven't made any money yet. When Barron's said that companies that had no profits rose more than 100% last year while companies that made money rose a mere 14% or so, that made my head spin...
