Looking for a trigger

<<Maybe there will be no specific trigger at all and stocks will go down "for no particular reason" (verbatim CNNfn commentary last week).>>

I see the NAZ running totally on sentiment now, with no real fundamental reason for it to keep on running up so selectively. Tightening monetary policy and reduced consumer spending will catch up with the tech stocks as well near term. I don't see it going down unless there is something to change the sentiment, fundamentals don't matter anymore.

Another poster mentioned the China/Taiwan tensions as a possible trigger and I agree it should be watched closely. The fact that China delayed the deal with QCOM also makes me wonder if China isn't seriously planning to take over Taiwan soon. Why start a major deal with QCOM if you know that there will be US/China tensions in the near future?

Remember expansion into China is/was supposed to be a major growth factor for many of the big technology companies. And at they are very dependent on Taiwan as a source of semiconductors. It could be a double wammy if the source goes away at the same time a major market (China) leaves as well.
Maybe this will be the trigger. I know this is purely speculation, but interesting to me anyway.

Mike

Anko, i agree that's a possibility...but rest assured that triggers will be identified after the event.
