Steve: What happens if you go long an issue and at the same time sell it short, just prior to a dividend date of record. Can you reap the dividend without incurring a market risk? I would think it to be a zero-sum game, as isn't your broker supposed to collect the dividend from account with the short and pay them to the lender of the borrowed shares?
