Tom, I cant tell you how much I appreciate reading the content on the porch. When I get home from the office (not work) it takes me a few hours to unwind.. Take a look @ the Superconductor sector, they are taking a run like the fuel cells did a few weeks ago. I would be interested in what the heads on the porch have to say about SCON,CDTS and ISCO. They probably know more than our WS analysts because they are not house shills. Also I would be interested in getting your spin on time compression in relationship to this Dow correction.. One would be very foolish to believe that the old economy is dead. I want to thank you and the porch members for making my evenings much shorter. I visit a lot of old economy companies and believe me they are humming but their stock prices are not reflecting this. I only own tech, but am ready to leave when money starts to drift back into the old. I think the banks will lead the turn, but I have been wrong before.

JACK

PS Happy Planting

Voltaire,

"Remember when we get through, you should have a different life with very little stress."

w2 scratches his head & thinks to himself, 'self, yer workin' 70+ hours a week. Ya gots chitloads of equity ya been building in that account so one day you & the better half can enjoy a comfortable retirement. Now Volt man here says he's got this plan that let's you enjoy it both now & later.' w2 scratches his head again, bein' an auditor & all. Sumpin' jus ain't addin' up. Now ole' w2 is intrigued by this stress free life. Lord knows w2 has his share of stress. Nutin' would make this Yankee happier than to reduce that stress.

Now w2 gets to thinkin 'bout Volty's options rants & the %'s & numbers he's thrown around lately. Then he looks at his portfolio & does a little cypherin (um, that's numbers crunching for non-porch mates). Jumpin' jiminy! w2 estimates that he could retire & live quite comfortably on 1/2 of what Volt man says could be available.

w2 scratches his head again. There's got to be a catch. It all makes sense to this Yankee, but sumpin' keeps gnawin' at the back of his brain - can't exactly put his finger on it. Man, nutin' would make Mr. & Mrs. w2 happier than to implement a plan that reduces stress & improves yer life at the same time. There's got to be a catch. w2's brain starts hurtin' from all that thinkin'. Could it be w2's time has arrived? Dare to dream................ ;-)

w2 sneaks a little closer to Volt man's rocker so's he can listen closely & patiently waits.....

Could Be HUGE For The Q>

From the other Qualcomm thread....this is huge. I think that gdichaz may have been on the
right track. This could be the way into Europe.

U.S., Japan Firms To Adopt Qualcomm's Data Transfer Method
Sunday, February 27, 2000
WASHINGTON (Nikkei)--Sixteen Japanese, U.S., European and South Koran firms
have agreed to standardize technology allowing ultra high-speed Internet access by
cellular phones, sources close to the deal said Saturday.
The companies include Toshiba Corp. (6502), Sony Corp. (6758) and Lucent
Technologies Inc. of the U.S. The technology in question is the HDR high-speed
data transfer system developed by Qualcomm Inc. of the U.S.

The HDR method allows 32 times faster data transfers than is possible with an ISDN
(integrated services digital network) and does not require the use of costly
optical-fiber networks. If this is standardized, HDR-based services will be launched
in Japan next year, the sources said.

HDR uses the 1.25-megaherz frequency, the same frequency bandwidth as for
cdmaOne cell phone services available in Japan. The new technology can be
relatively easily commercialized in Japan, as it will share radio stations with
cdmaOne service providers.

The technology can produce 2.4 megabits of throughput per second, allowing the
downloading of browser software in a matter of minutes, compared with five hours
or so required by conventional technologies.

The 16 firms plan to urge the International Telecommunication Union to recognize
the technology as a global standard within this year.

does a new BMW 528i metallic blue 4door sedan qualify as a goddam chariot???

they didnt have no gunracks, nor vibrating builtin devices

just signed the line, VoltStrawManHillJackTommyRebEinsteinCrackerJackMan

they looked over the WalkerHound Hearse and gave me $500 for it
I told them the sumbitch truck cap alone is worth that amount
they said it dont have no factory air neither, essential for Florida
we just laughed and laughed
I told them guys the thing does zero to 60 in 13 seconds
I told them it will be cruising the earth longer than their finance manager

I didnt quibble, not a man of my deeppocketed substance
picking it up on Wednesday after a CDplayer installed

got myself a straw hat with a nice stylish sashe also
also am a hat collector, got more than you for sure
the hat is great to allow a breeze thru, yet provide shade

gotta go first class on the chariot, right coach?
put me in, coach, put me in!!!

Our Guru, who art in Atlanta
Voltaire be thy name
Thy predictions come, thy deals be done
In small portofolios as well as large
Give us this day our daily direction
And lead us not into the poorhouse
But deliver us from Greenspan
For thine is the analyis, the technology, and the glory forever
Amen

to all Christians who are offended, stuff it

Food for thought regarding our conversation on the Dow.

>>SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- The "dual market" trend, with the
technology-heavy Nasdaq soaring ahead and the blue-chip Dow Jones
index lagging behind, could continue for quite some time, a Bank of
America fund manager says.

"We think it's going to continue for a while," John
Zimmerman, manager of the Nations Strategic
Growth Fund (NSEPX), told
CBS.MarketWatch.com. "The new economy,
productivity, technology, will continue to dominate
for the next several quarters at least."

<snip>

CBS.MW: Your fund has about a 33 percent
weighting in technology? How confident are you that the recent
surge in technology stocks will continue?

Zimmerman: When's it going to end? We don't think it is in the near term.
We are overweight technology and health care, underweight utility stocks.

CBS.MW: Tell us about your investment strategy.

Zimmerman: We're a growth fund that will outperform the index, but
we're not a focused fund. We're not high risk. Our beta (a measure of
volatility in relation to the rest of the stock market) is 1.01. We're
extremely tax efficient -- 98.5 percent in 1999. We balance risk and
return. We're down so far this year, but we're about 450 basis points over
the S&P 500. We're having a relatively very good year.

CBS.MW: What are some of your recent technology stock
purchases?

Zimmerman: Ciena (CIEN: news, msgs), Phone.com (PHCM: news,
msgs), Qualcomm (QCOM: news, msgs).<<
