**OT** Engineering Academy Awards

The Indian National Academy of Engineering has awarded Lifetime Contribution awards in engineering to Dr. Homi N. Sethna and Dr. Arcot Ramachandran.

Dr. Sethna, former Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, is now Director, Tata Electric Companies. Dr. Ramachandran's career in engineering and technology spans over five decades. He was Secretary in the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and was concurrently Director-General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.

The academy has also a scheme for recognising talented young engineers by conferring on them Young Engineer Awards. The award winners for 1999 are:

Dr. Satish V. Kailas, IISc, Bangalore
Dr. Durgesh C. Rai, University of Roorkee, Roorkee
Dr. S. Mukhopadhyay, IIT, Kharagpur
Mr. V.V.S. Prakash, Electronics and Radar Development Establishment, Bangalore
Dr. V. Moorthy, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam
Dr. A. Kannan, IIT, Madras
Dr. B. K. Das, Interim Test Range, Chandipur, Orissa
Dr. L. Satish, IISc, Bangalore
Lt. Cdr. Rajeev Shukla, INS Gharial, Visakhapatnam.


The awards were given away by the Maharashtra Governor, Dr. P. C. Alexander, at a function at Raj Bhavan on February 24.
