Oddly, there don't seem to be any identifiable AMD employees anywhere. Cheerleading and trash talking stocks is of course stock in trade at SI. It's just the official participation that seems funny. Particularly amusing is the oft touted boxed and ready to ship gigamines, as opposed to the apparent scarcity of .8gmines, at least if you go by normal market indicators, and not FUDding around.

Their only hope is to try and scale the MHz/GHz ladder in an attempt to stay above the flood waters, and even that strategy isn't going to last.

Athlon will have little trouble continuing to scale the MHz ladder. AMD has not even opened the bag of tricks Intel is using to try to stay competitive.

I would expect Intel (despite what has been said officially) to have volume Willamette by late Q3, and certainly by Q4. If not, AMD with Thunderbird will be looking down on the battle for the low end between Intel Coppermine and VIA CIII.

Willamette is looking less impressive (at least what has been shown so far). Early speculation was 4 symmetric FPU pipes compared to Athlon's 3, now it looks like two FPU pipes, and they aren't symmetrical. The "double pumping" may mean that those 2 pipes can be considered double twin pipes under ideal circumstances, but it's looking more and more like Willamette will be pretty much comparable to Thunderbird. Plus, it looks like the Willamette L2 was used for Coppermine, as I had speculated - so, with coppermine, we've already seen about 1/4 of the difference between Willamette and PIII.

Update: The on chip L2 cache is reportedly 256K. It appears as though it is identical to the Coppermine on-chip cache.

Tenchusatsu, when, or should I say if this deluge of biblical proportions hits, AMD will not be the only one to suffer...ASPs will fall on both sides.

What you all fail to realize is that when Intel left the window.....actually more like a door....open, more than the cat and opportunity were drug in. AMD was given a chance in a lifetime and they took it.

Why do you think PE and EP and now PB have all bought AMD stock?
