Tony - Re: "most people have been blinded by the Qualcomm light in the cell phone area, and with their patent(?) on CDMA technology. Do you know what the prospects of this Intel - Mitsubishi alliance might be?"

Intel is licensed by Qualcomm for CDMA - this was done by Intel's purchase of DSP Communications which was previously licensed by Qualcomm - and Intel's follow up RENEWAL of the same license.

Qualcomm has moved towards a CDMA LICENSING-CENTRIC position, and chip set sales - and AWAY from Cell phone manufacturing -as they recently sold off their hand set manufacturing division to Kyocera.

So, Licensing, royalties & chip sets are the future for Qualcomm.

Now, W-CDMA is a bit different - it is Wide Band CDMA - and is one of 2 CDMA variations that are vying for NEXT-GENERATION dominance.

I'm pleased to see Intel out in front in this W-CDMA area !

Paul

George re Wi-lan (tse:win), I agree this is going to be big.
Great patents for the next generation of Wireless, check out their web site for info..
wi-lan.com
They got on the TSE in 1999 and I wouldn't be surprised to se them get a Nasdaq
listing in 2000.. then we'll see a big jump in the stock price similar to Sierra wireless
(TSE:SW) who has had a big jump since they announced their intention to list on
Nasdaq.. Here's hoping it happens sooner rather than later.

''Wi-LAN is looking at potentially three to six acquisitions during fiscal 2000. '' Says Dr. Hatim Zaghloul, Chairman and CEO,
Wi-LAN. ''We have put together an excellent team to search for these companies and perform thorough due diligence on
them. The team involves some Wi-LAN directors, managers, legal counsel, and varied brokerage firms. ''
