Yes, after you subtract out the cash and the ABGX shares they own there isn't much valuation on the rest of the company. That is pretty remarkable for a company that has finished very promising Phase I and Phase II trials on vaccines for both prostate and lung cancer (trials performed at Harvard). And Japanese tobacco is betting at least $45 mill that these vaccines are going to work.

And of course, there are the 200 plus patents. I suspect we go up to the next level next week and then do another shake out like we did this last week.

I see they still mention melanoma as late as mid 1999

My only guess is that they decided that since there are other relatively successful techniques for dealing with melanoma, gene therapy was considered to involve a bit too much risk at this time?

The evidence against this explanation comes from this interesting set of CEGE results for prostate cancer.

"The gene we used to turn on the immune system is so good that it activates everything," says William G. Nelson, M.D., Ph.D. "We were not surprised to see T-cell activation, the arm of the immune system triggered by viruses, but this vaccine also stimulated new high-level antibody production. Such a complete and thorough activation of the immune system against prostate cancer has never before been seen," he says.

In fact, the therapy is so well tolerated by patients that no hospitalization is required. The only side effects associated with this therapy are flulike symptoms and redness and itchiness at the vaccine site for several days.
