This is very interesting stuff - I think some people posted some information regarding the FASB's research into this topic in the past. I feel that it could be something that could immediately slow the current economic expansion we've been enjoying. Or perhaps it could create the much needed consolidation in some sectors.....

(maybe I should have paid more attention in economics class). Or better yet, someone should turn this idea onto Greenspan so he can lay off the interest rates :)

I don't believe it would cause a recession or a depression but it should would go a long way to slowing the current "accumulation of wealth" by a small group of companies. These companies now tilt the balance of market capitalization away from traditional economics which has me worried about the long term affects of this "growth". While most of us have enjoyed riding the coattails of these DOT.COM companies -- we can all agree that a company that posts NO REVENUES is not a solid long term investment.

I don't care how much marketshare a company can gather or claim. If they can not turn a penny maintaining that marketshare, it's an illusion! I can create marketshare in ANY COMPANY ON EARTH if revenues and net gross was not an

Also if you look longer into the future - if the percentage of companies in existance follow this DOT.COM path increases - do we find ourselves with more companies that POST NO PROFITS than companies that do!?!?! Where is the inheritant value in that?

You know what they say about behaviors right? If you practice bad ones, how do you know to follow good ones? So if these startups do nothing but LOSE money -- how do they know to make money? (this is an overly simplified opinion here).

What you really should look into is the use of stock options in lieu of salaries. There was a man -- Bill Parrish -- who had a website with research he was doing on these tech companies and their abuse of this loophole in the corporate tax laws. (the URL was www.billparrish.org but it doesn't seem to work tonight). It can really change the bottom line of any company that utilizes stock options as a method for "bypassing" payroll tax liabilities than for rewarding the hard work of their employees. Of course the public stance is the latter but hey....do we really know?

Ok - I'm off my soap box -
