Troy,

I do spelling words with my son (6 years old) as well. At his school, they take a pre-test, and then send the answer sheet home, along with the results of the pre-test. Then, they take the real test a couple days later.

One week, we lost the answer sheet - couldn't find it anywhere, and the test was the next day. But, no fear, we had the pre-test. Although he hadn't spelled them all correctly on the pre-test, he was close enough that we could easily figure out what the words were supposed to be...except for one word that we simply couldn't decipher.

On the pre-test, he had spelled the word: c o m t i n t

We couldn't figure it out and he couldn't remember.

I couldn't wait to get home from work the next day to ask him what that word was. When I walked in the house, I said, "What was that last word on your test?"

He thought for a second and said, "Community!"

I said, "Of course! Did you spell it right?"

He answered, "Yeah! At least I think I did!....Community has three m's in it, right Dad?"

Oops. :)
