Their linked-list example was fairly compelling, but only if they are correct about linked lists being common in compiled code.

x86 processors keep operands in memory, and can almost always keep a load pipeline full. The L1 access time is not really very interesting, as has been proven by Athlon Alpha, and PIII.

Sun Microelectronics has too many roots in academia, and would rather look at theory than empirical evidence.
