Now Ted lets get the quotes right. I said a year or so. Here's what Intel said about their F22 in Ocotillo just now breaking ground.

intel.com;

So, EP, "or so" means 2-3 years?

And lets get what was said in the article straight. "Intel plans to be bring this fab on line in record time to meet our customers needs." In other words having it ready in 2001
(a year or so)is considered very fast.

However this project has not been approved by Chandler, AZ because its says "the project is contingent upon local governmental approval....". This means the project is not even close to having the necessary permits to begin construction. Its probably in plan check....which can be a long and tedious process. Then again I am sure Intel knows how to grease the wheels.

Now why am I getting into this kind of detail?....because getting governmental approval is one of the many hurdles this project will go thru to get built and is one of the many things that may keep this project from being completed "in record time".

So lets check back in 2001 and in the meantime, it may be more reasonable to compare Dresden with the construction time frames of existing Intel fabs rather than proposed ones.
