EMI to Announce Mobile-Phone Venture With BT, Telegraph Says

London, Feb. 27 (Bloomberg) - EMI Group Plc, which is merging with Time Warner Inc.'s music unit to create the world's biggest record company, will announce Tuesday a mobile-phone joint venture with British Telecommunications Plc, the Daily Telegraph reported, citing EMI. The service, which will be run with Genie, BT Cellnet's Internet arm, will allow users to listen to pop news and gossip, hear advance clips of new releases and receive messages from pop stars. In the future, users will be able to download whole tracks through the service.

Time Warner and EMI said Jan. 24 they will merge their music units with Warner, paying EMI shareholders $1.3 billion to gain board control of the 50-50 joint venture to be called Warner EMI Music.
