That technology sounds strikingly similar to Vertel's e*ORB. Rumors on the Yahoo VRTL thread that QCOM is buying Vertel.

Hi Teflon:

I read that and I thought it interesting as well. HDR could be used for sending program information (and advertisements) as well as capturing data back from the user for e-commerce. It seems to me that the deal with PageNet would become less relevant in this scenario. (OT for this thread: But does this mean an HDR chip in each television or a single HDR chip at home and connected to the television through BlueTooth or something like that. Seems really positive for Qualcomm)

Sending programming information through cable is less of an issue, now with the TVGuide merger. But it always helps to have as many alternatives when dealing with cable companies. Capturing user information for e-commerce using HDR seems a positive for Gemstar and makes the PageNet deal less important. All in my opinion.
