I went to local FRY's`store and asked the software sales rep
as to why retail sales of windows2000 is so high. He said

(1) Lot of small business are upgrading. Lot fo these are
home businesses or small businesses who buy retail.

(2) Several companies need the latest win2000 release to
test their products are complaint. i.e for their labs.

(3) There are individuals who either knowingly or
unknowingly want the latest windows on their PC.

All said and done sales of windows2000 is going to take
msft to a new accelerating revenue, earnings stream, all
my opinions and I beg to differ with others based on what
I see.

Bill - Are you thinking about taking a position in MSFT? Drew and I are in pretty deep selling puts, I also bought calls - here's hoping this is the bottom.

OLDTRADER: Welcome aboard. MSFT languishes as people jump out of the DOJ clouded scenario to invest in what they think is the "new" technology. They hope to find the next MSFT. As I have always maintained MSFT is the next MSFT and it is heavily involved in the "new" technologies from broadband to wireless to imbedded systems. Additionally they have just embarked on a new product cycle that I am sure is even surprising them to the upside regarding its acceptance. Particularly noteworthy are the comments of some of our more Windows savvy people on this board who have extolled the virtues of W2K as a single user product. I lack the imagination as to what fear the investor selling MSFT is motivated by. Even the most dire of outcomes will be a plus for MSFT. As one reads the briefs and feels the pulse of public sentiment this DOJ thing will not prevail. Unfortunately trying to figure out the bottom of this thing has become puzzling and it seems to be becoming a better bargain with each passing day. But the market unfortunately is always right (although Judge jackson might take issue with that). I hope MSFT is taking advantage of this weakness to buy back cheap shares for its employee option programs. JFD
