Shelties make very very small poops. They housebreak themselves and are almost no trouble whatever. In the very rare circumstance that a sheltie is confined to a house for 24 hours and cannot get outside, what appears on the rug can be gathered into one paper towel and dropped in the toilet. A sheltie is hardly any more trouble than a hamster, and thousands of percent more rewarding. You can pick a sheltie up with one hand, they jealously guard the house, get the lowest rates at the kennel (if that's needed) and adore children. They subsist well on one cup of dry dogfood a day and a few ounces of water.
