i don't think the sale would show up anywhere

So then .. one large transfer .. to several smaller buyers. Then the smaller buyers unload .. these resulting sales do show up on the tick, trin, and volume charts.

But it all starts with a change in OI ...

There was a large amount of call activity last week ..

Was this bullish, wishful thinking or more distribution being set up??

many institutional players use this method to sell stock; just as they will also sell puts to buy. they have been doing this for a long time; is it more pronounced now? that would be hard to quantify

L3 correctly mentions that option MM's will hedge w/ shares, so the total effect is not wholely negated.
it just gets shifted, and yes, a stealth shift at that.
